For the aspiring website owner the idea of designing a website and subsequently learning jumbles of, what seems like, a hundred different kinds of code can be a daunting one. On the other side, the idea of paying a company a large sum of money to design the website of your dreams isn’t exactly a prospect filling you with the warm and fuzzies. So how does one decide what the best option is? To learn and slave over hours of techno babble, or to pay and worry about that invoice, full of fees and unknown charges? It really on depends on you, the consumer, and the personality you bring to the project.
One of the first steps to any web design project is trying to decide what kind of site you’ll require for your needs. If you want a cut and dry, no nonsense text based site, then learning the required programming languages will not prove as difficult as the high graphic content sites. It would certainly be cost effective to learn the code yourself, and the process of uploading the site and managing the pages, but it is also time consuming. It all comes down to drive and your personal feelings on your ability to learn. The internet offers a million resources for virtually anything related to web design, and all can be learned, and eventually mastered. You must ask yourself if you have the ability to learn hours of complicated code, and the time to sit down and write out an entire website. If the answer is yes then all that needs to be done is a few keywords in a search engine. There is also the possibility of a web design program, one which is just a matter of filling in text, and dragging and dropping material from one area of the page to another. These programs lack many of the features one can utilize for their site, however, and some can prove even more complicated then learning the code itself.
For those with a little money, and a serious lack of time, hiring a web design company to handle your website is definitely the better option. These companies handle the design, the coding, and the maintenance, and eliminate most of the hassle involved in web design. A little comparing and contrasting will need to be done, however, to find a company or a freelancer that suits you best. When searching for someone to design your page you’ll first want to take a look at some of the work they have done in the past. Then take a look at the services they offer, and the cost of each service. You’ll want someone who can listen to your needs, and make them come to life. You have a million options in this department, so the skies the limit. Or at least as large as your wallet will expand.
The important part is finding out what works for you. Do the research, be involved, and decide what you can do, and what you can’t.
